Here’s your round up of some of the interesting things for today.

The online Photographer has a review of the Olympus E-P1 Pen micro four thirds camera. This is definitely in my “to buy” list

An interesting blog post entitled “Don’t let digital photography make you sloppy” from black star rising talks about not getting into bad habits because of the ease of use of todays technology.

Luminous Landscape reviews the Panasonic GH1 and in particular it’s video functionality. The GH1 is looking like the best compromise for all round video recording on a DSLR. It seems to offer the advantages of a larger sensor (than traditional video cameras) while minimizing rolling shutter and offering video friendly features. Worth a look.

Canon Rumors details canon’s newly announced advanced image stabilization technology that the company is touting that claims to compensate for both lateral and angular motion. I didn’t think the current state of Image Stabilization needed much improving but anyway. Also, in my experience Nikon’s VR is much better than Canon’s IS, at least in the lenses I have. My Canon 24-105′s IS is very poor compared to Nikon’s VR in their 18-105. With the Canon at 105 I need to shoot at a shutter speed of 100 or more for it to be smooth but with the Nikon I can shoot as low as 1/30th of a second and still get a perfectly crisp frame. (of course it could be just my lens)

Ok, moving on….

I found an excellent collection of “metal” images on iStock Photo today while looking for something else. There are some nice textured backgrounds and a nice set of engine parts so if you’re looking for such things it might be worth a look.

Ok, not directly Photography related, but Rad Tech have an interesting new product out that claims to cut down glare on glossy screens, which could be a big boon for photographers especially those working with Apple’s new Macbook Pros in the field in bright conditions.

Ok, this is actually from a while ago, but I thought it was worth a mention any way. Macworld reviews a brilliant little App for OS X that lets you set which application opens depending on what camera you connect. This is an incredibly usefull piece of software and really should be part of the operating system. If you are on a mac and have more than one camera (or even a camera phone) and like to use different apps (for example i use iPhoto with my iPhone and compact camera but Aperture or Lightroom for my DSLR’s) then this is a god send. Well worth checking out.
