Variations on a theme

I took this shot from my balcony yesterday, and while it’s pretty bland and not particularly well exposed (I’ve zereoed out the raw file in Lightroom, the original didn’t look quite this bad), I saw the potential in it.
I usually just tweak my Images in either Lightroom or Aperture, but I’ve been trying to make more use of Photoshop lately for some more advanced “tweaking”. So after some time playing around with levels, curves, adjustment layers, sharpening, high pass filters, grain, noise, blur, more adjustment layers and the occasional lens correction filter here are a couple of variations that I thought were pretty cool.
I like the black and white one because it really emphasizes the texture and grittiness of the half melted snow.
I like this one too. It has that old photo look that I’ve been playing with lately. Anyway, I hope you liked them.
p.s. In the end I used another slight variation of the black and white one for my “photo of the day” for my “twentyten365” project
