Snow Week
Oh, I did get some nice shots recently, during an extended cold spell that embraced Ireland. Here’s a gallery of some of the images I took during our snow week

So, you may have noticed a distinct lack of activity here of late. Unfortunately, my photography aspirations often get put aside for real life. I wish it wasn’t the case but what can you do. I’ve been very busy at work lately and all the stress involved in that has somewhat reduced my capacity to do anything on the weekends. So apologies for the lack of updates.
What I really want is something that’s easy to set up and make look good, but more importantly easy to maintain and update. I want to be able to update galleries easy and keep slideshows etc up to date, and I also want to be able to keep the blog section going too. Any suggestions anyone might have are welcome
Ok, so the whole “a photo a day” plan didn’t exactly work out. As with most great new years plans life gets in the way, or in this case work. It’s a pity because I found it was really helping my Photography. It’s not because I was getting great shots or anything, but it was pushing me to think of things in a different way, and to see subjects in a different light. Unfortunately, as photography is not my full time career, I just don’t have the time to shoot, process and upload every day, and once you’ve stopped for a few days, that pretty much put pay to me going back to it. Ok, that’s a cop out, I know but anyway, I apologize for the abrupt ending of the series, and I also apologize for not posting anything here in a while.
I think instead I’m going to assign myself a photo project at least once a month and see how that goes. My “Georgian Recession” was fairly successful. I had lots of views for that. I already have an idea for a new one, but It’s a secret until I get round to doing it.
If anyone has any ideas for a project or a series then feel free to make suggestions. I’m always open to ideas and if not me then someone else might like to take up the challenge.
In the mean time here are some photos from the cold snap and snow showers we had in Dublin recently. This was a pretty rare event here so it was great to get some shots
So, My plan to take and post one picture a day for 2009 didn’t quite go according to, well, plan. I was ill at the start of the week and I was tired and busy the last few days so taking shots and post processing them just got away from me. However, I don’t want to give up so I’ve managed to get some shots over the few days to make up for it. I just hadn’t had chance to post them, until now. So, here are shots for the last four days. The mobile me gallery isn’t updated just yet. I will do that later this evening.
Day 15: Candle Light
Day 16: Abstract Patterns
Day 17: Heading Home
Day 18: Seagull Stand Off
Me, on my Technology blog…
The way I look at it is like this. At the end of the day you want a camera to be invisible. You dont want to have to think about it. You want to be able to fluidly express your vision without this piece of technology getting in the way. It’s a balance and for everyone that balance is different. If the symmetry between you and the camera is off, if that balance between camera and photographer isn’t quite right it can affect your creativity and your motivation. But everyone is different and what works for some might not work for others.
[From Cameras vs. Photography]
I was playing around with a coupl of shells from a bathroom ornament and this looked like it could be some kind of pre-historic sea creature. This was lit with just overhead normal houselights passed through a home made diffusion filter (tracing paper and foam board !)
I completely forgot to take an image on Saturday for the one a day project, due to a combination of fatigue and “doing other things” so here’s one from Friday. This was taken with my trusty LX2 dangeling (the camera - not me!) out of the window from the top floor of a Georgian building looking towards the junction of bagott street and fitzwilliam road. As the sun begins to set there’s a lovely mix of the colours from the dusk sun and the artifical lights from the cars and buildings.
I “only” had my little Panasonic LX3 with me today, but I still got some nice shots. What struck me by this was the quality of the light. It had been really horrible weather the last little while and so the lovely quality of the low winter sun really stood out to me. Incidentally, this is straight out of the camera, untouched
It’s late in the evening and it’s dark and its lashing rain outside, but I’m still determined to keep up the one a day tradition. This is a liittle moterized water wheel and castle thats sitting on our shelf in the hall and it looked suitably spookey for the horrible weather outside.
