Autumn in Ireland, 2013: A series of freshly fallen Autumn Leaves Autumn is my absolute favourite time of the year, especially here in Ireland. From a photographic point of view it has a number of distinct advantages. First of all, there's lots of lovely fall colours everywhere. Secondly, because the daylight hours are beginning to change again, there is some lovely light in the mornings and evenings, and you don't have to be up at 5am to get the best of it. Autumn mornings here produce some lovely lighting and I think that's part of the reason I like it so much. There's also a certain freshness to the air that comes with the turning of the seasons. Anyway, the start of Autumn is always a contentious issue. Technically, it's supposed to by August, but some people insist that it's september. For me it's when the leaves start to change. It's a subtle thing, but once it starts it happens quickly enough. Last week I was out wandering with my camera and there were only a few brown leaves on the ground, yet this week the number had increased substantially, and there was a definite feel of Autumn in the air. While walking through one of the City's parks I came up with an impromptu photographic series. I noticed that all the leaves were falling in the same manner, and that if you shot them the same way, it made for an interesting collection. You had the same rough shape but different colours and different backgrounds. Put them as a series and it works really well. So, without further ado, here's my accidental virtual art exhibit: "Leaf Fall"

From a technical point of view, these were all captured with a Canon 5D Mark II and most were taken using the 105mm Macro Lens (the original one, not the newer version). For post production, I used the new VSCO film 4 presets for Lightroom, and the Velvia setting!

If you'd like a print of any of these they're available from my photo and archive library.
