Street Photo Diary, Issue 27: Walking with a purpose
A few weeks ago, I was up and out early into the city to shoot some things for my Streets of Dublin project, and while I was there I ended up shooting a lot of street photography too. What was funny though was that, as it was early in the morning, people were heading to work and the mood was quite different from how it is later in the day. For a start everyone was walking with haste and with a real sense of purpose.
In this set I tried my best to capture that sense of movement. There was an unusual quite over the city too. Despite being lots of people, everyone is quiet. there are very few chatting, just lots of busy people on their way to work, perhaps a little tired still. Lots of people walking with coffee cups. It reminded me of when I used to be part of the rat race too, before I started working for myself. Of course there were still other interesting things to see too, but it was this sense of movement and purpose that I felt eded up being the somewhat unintentional theme of the shoot. It was a little dark and moody that day too, so I didn’t try and compensate for that but rather embraced the mood.
Gear wise, this was all shot on a Sony A6000 with Sigma 30mm and 19mm lenses, and processed in Lightroom. I didn’t really use any presets on these. They’re more or less straight from the camera, except I used the calibration and settings that I have in my A6000 guide.
