A Warning about High Sierra for Wacom Users

A Warning about High Sierra for Wacom Users

You may have read this already, but if you’re a mac user considering upgrading to High Sierra, and you use a Wacom Tablet, then don’t. The company has announced that the system will require a new driver and that won’t be ready until the end of October.

Here’s the statement from the company:

Apple has announced 10.13 High Sierra will be released September 25th. Wacom is currently working on a new driver update to support the new operating system. The new Wacom driver will be ready by late October at the latest. Due to nature of the changes in High Sierra, the existing Wacom driver for 10.12 will not work. To continue to use your tablet uninterrupted, Wacom suggests not to upgrade to 10.13 until the new driver is released.

This is kind of crappy on their part considering how long High Sierra has been in beta, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt that it just proved more difficult than expected. Wacom have in the past, used such updates to discontinue support for older models. I had to buy a new tablet a few years ago because they decided to no longer support the tablet that I had, and had to upgrade to a new Intuos 4. They better bloody support that though. Just be warned if you have an older tablet. Im sure it will be fine though.
