I only came across this cool site recently but it’s fricken’ awesome. It’s a cool online store that has some great off beat photography related goodies. My personal favourites are the Photoshop fridge magnets and the Fuji Instax camera, but there’s some other great quirky and useful stuff on there too (such as seat belt camera straps. Like I said, awesome. Well worth checking out for the average photography geek.

D-Town TV Returning in January

One of my favourite podcasts, D-Town TV is returning in January after an extended hiatus. The show, presented by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskoswki was originally focussed on Nikon cameras and accessories but they are expanding it to cover all digital camera brands and all aspects of digital photography. While I liked the fact that the show was focussed before (on Nikon) I can see the appeal in opening it up to a broader audience.

Apple finally adds support for Nikon D300s and Canon 7D

Apple has finally added Aperture and iPhoto support for the Nikon D300s and a few other cameras including the Canon 7D. Considering the length of time the D300s in particular has been available it seems to have taken the company a long time to get Aperture support for the Camera, leading once again to frustration amongst users with Apple over the pace at which it adds new camera support. Other Cameras now supported in the update include the Eos 1D Mk IV, The Nikon D3s, The Nikon D3000, Canon G11 and the afore mentioned Canon 7D. Even if you’re not an Aperture user and you have one of these cameras (and a mac) you should download the update anyway, as it will add support to Preview and quicklook for their raw files.

DpReview Tests The Powershot G11

Digital Photography Review gives the Canon G11 their usual thorough work over in their comprehensive 21 Page review. I have to say, the Canon G Series is camera I was always interested in until recently. I think that the range has been made defunct by cameras such as the Panasonic GF1 and the Olympus Digital Pen. Still, many users swear by the previous models and this looks to be a lot better thanks to its lower resolution sensor. Now, if only Canon would apply the same logic to their DSLRs.

Scott Kelby’s Cool Off Camera Flash T-Shirts

Scott Kelby has announced some cool t-shirts for anyone into photography over on his blog. They are a pretty cool design, aimed at off camera flash enthusiasts, but more importantly, all proceeds go to the Springs of Hope Kenya Orphanage. Definitely a worth cause. I’m still dealing with some health issues so I haven’t been able to blog as much as I normally would this past week (well, few weeks at this stage) and I’m also working up a large review of the Canon 5D Mark II which I should have ready to post in the next few days. In the mean time here’s a quick round up of some interesting links from the past week.

Dvice has a remarkable picture of a Delta 4 Rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral in Florida.

Check out the story behind the remarkable redwood picture that features in this months National Geographic. You really need to see this in the magazine. It’s truly spectacular.

Luminous Landscape has a “field review” of the Leica M9.

The digital Photography School has the interesting results of a poll that shows that more people use the right eye than left when looking through the viewfinder.

A truly excellent “guest blog” post on Scott Kelby’s blog by Mike Kubeisy. Mike is a “Motion Picture and Television Stills Photographer” and has worked on hit shows such as NCIS. It’s well worth a read.

Photo Tuts has an interesting article on Travel Photography outlining 7 top tips for “Taking travel photos like a pro”

Luminous Landscape posts a “hands on” review of a pre-production Canon 7D

The Online Photographer has an article about the original Olympus Pen camera. Well worth a read and a fascinating product from years ago.

The Boston Globe’s “Big Picture” series has an amazing set of images from the recent Sydney dust storms.

DPreview posts a gallery of sample images from the Canon G11 high end compact camera

John Nack posts some sales statistics on his blog showing that Lightroom has a 3 to 1 market share advantage among professional users. The stats are based on an independent survey, so they should be reasonably accurate, despite the potential bias being from an Adobe blog.

The Online Photographer outlines some interesting photography related books including a beautiful looking book on the history of photography

The Return of Photo Related Links for September 17th

After my vacation and subsequent flu, I haven’t had the chance to go back to my semi regular series of photography related links from around the web. That is until now. A little over dramatic? Absolutely! Anyway, here’s some clicks of interest for today:

Adobe have released the latest updates to Camera Raw and Lightroom, bringing the respective versions to 5.5 and 2.5. The update adds support for recent cameras such as the Nikon D300s and D3000 as well as the Olympus EP1

Another series of superb images from Carl Rytterfalk taken with the Sigma DP1 and DP2. The sharpness and vividness of his images are something to behold.

Carl Zeiss launches an 18mm f/3.5 prime lens for Canon mount. While manual focus only, the legendary Zeiss optics should make this a powerful addition to any serious canon shooter’s arsenal.

Nikon Rumors notes that the new version of the Nikon 18-200mm lens is starting to show up at US retailers.

Philip Bloom announces the availability of his 5dmkII Cinematography DVD. Bloom has been an early adopter of DSLR Cinematography and has done some great work with both the 5D, the 7D and the Panasnic GH1. Worth checking out.
