The Wind Garden. A short video with the X-Pro 2

The Wind Garden. A short video with the X-Pro 2

Because we’re pretty terrible at looking after plants, and because everything we plant usually dies, we’ve been looking for ways to decorate our balcony without condemning some poor flowers to their untimely ends. So my wife came up with the ingenious idea of creating a garden out of windmills. I was sceptical at first, but now that I’ve seen the finished product, I’m really impressed.

We got some pots from IKEA and painted an old bench to put them on. The result is a wonderfully colourful and cheery display. What’s been better is that it requires very little looking after.

The colours are really pretty and watching the spinning motion made me think I could make a nice little video. And so, here it is.

I shot this all on the Fuji X-Pro 2. For the colour profile on the camera I used Pro Neg standard. The sun was coming and going so the light was changing a good bit. I was in the shade the whole time, but the brightness and colour kept changing. I used the 18-55mm lens, and I shot in Aperture Priority mode. I did my best to balance out the shots in premiere, and I added a slight “look” using Film Convert, but I mostly used it to add a bit of grain. There really isn’t much done to it, so this is not too far off what came out of the camera.

Anyway, this was only intended to be a bit of fun. I shot this in an hour one afternoon, and it wasn’t set up as a proper shoot or anything. Even so, the colours really pop.
